Where women hold income and hold decisions, the effects reach across the household — nutrition, school attendance, health-seeking behaviour, resilience to shocks. This is among the most consistently evidenced findings in development practice.
The work combines savings and lending groups, business and financial skills, and support for women moving into leadership within community structures where those seats have historically not been theirs.
It also means addressing what constrains participation in the first place: safety, time burden, and the assumption that these are men’s decisions to make.
